Trichocereus peruvianus - Peruvian Torch cactus

The Peruvian Torch cactus is a fast-growing cactus native to the western slope of the Andes in Peru, between about 2000-3000 meters above sea level.
This cactus is bluish-green in colour, with frosted stems, and 6-8 broadly rounded ribs; it has large, white flowers. It can grow up to 7 meters tall, with stems up to 20 cm in diameter; it is fully erect to begin with, but later possibly arching over, or even becoming prostrate. Groups of 6-8 honey-coloured to brown rigid spines, up to 4 cm in length, with most about 1 cm, are located at the nodes, which are evenly spaced along the ribs, up to approximately 2.5 cm apart.
The Peruvian Torch grows very rapidly, attaining heights of up to 15 feet or more. Its entheogenic value is very much akin to that of the traditional and endangered péyote cacti, and it has been suggested that the Native American Church and Péyote Way Church of God establish plantations of peruvianus to guard against the serious depletion of wild-growing péyote.
To germinate the seeds place them on top of a soil and top dressing the soil with a coating of more soil. They should receive shaded light or fluorescent light for the first 6-12 months then full sun may be provided. The humidity for germination should be around 70-80 % this can be created using a small terrarium. This cactus will grow fast doubling its size every year.
